The M5 General Purpose instance family, launched in November 2017, features 1st and 2nd generation Intel Xeon Platinum processors, including the 8259CL model, with an all-core turbo frequency of up to 3.1 GHz. These instances provide up to 25 Gbps of network bandwidth using Enhanced Networking and rely on Amazon EBS for persistent block storage. Built on the AWS Nitro System, a key feature is support for the Intel Advanced Vector Extensions 512 (AVX-512) instruction set. They offer a balance of compute, memory, and network resources suitable for a wide range of workloads.
