The C4 Compute-optimized instance family was generally available in January 2015, featuring custom high-frequency Intel Xeon E5-2666 v3 (Haswell) processors with a base clock of 2.9 GHz and Turbo Boost up to 3.5 GHz. These instances provide Enhanced Networking for improved performance and are EBS-optimized by default, offering dedicated throughput of up to 4,000 Mbps. C4 instances do not include local instance storage, relying solely on Amazon EBS, and are designed for compute-bound workloads like HPC and high-traffic front-end fleets.
